Why are we getting referred to Answers forum? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Why is it - whether tech MS person is right or wrong - when they feel a query is posted to the wrong forum - why are they redirecting to ask another forum on ANSWERS instead of another forum on TECHNET ?
I had always thought that "answers" was consumer focused, while "technet" was industry focused.

I hardly ever get appropriate help on answers beyond basic troubleshooting steps aimed at beginners/non-technically inclined individuals. And yes, I usually include in my query exactly what was done so far as well. Questions there are more basic related to how to use a program or feature. While technet has actual IT professionals who have done deep dives into the inner workings and more apt to help solve work-arounds or configuration issues.

I don't need someone telling me to "try reinstalling" and/or "it's a bug you just need to wait until MS fixes it, nothing you can do".
I need the more technical answers - if it's a confirmed bug identified as XXXXXX, caused by conditions X Y Z and possible workarounds are adjusting A B C.

    Good day OttIT,

The short answer is that not all topics are covered in the MSDN/TechNet forums.

If you speak about the https://answers.microsoft.com/ system then it is mostly for home users. If you speak about the new QnA system https://docs.microsoft.com/answers, then keep reading...

Moreover, The MSDN and the TechNet forums are migrating to the QnA system, and in the future (might be be very far in the future) the plan is to close the MSDN and TechNet forums and migrate all forums to the QnA system. We are in the middle of the procedure these days which is why you might get more redirect request in specific categories which already migrated to the new system (new does not mean better).

Some of the forums already migrated which is why in some categories you are asked to move the new system, while other forums (most of them) are still operating here. At this time the new system mostly includes forums that related to the Azure.
