MS CRM 2011 vs MS CRM 4.0

Question
-
Dear All
Our Current Version is MS CRM 4.0
Do you recommend us to upgrade to the new version at some stage this year? Or we can continue with the current version as the users gets used to it. we also have heavy customizations, javascripts, reports and plugins.
I did not like the new layout that much by the way.
Let me know what do you think.

I guess you should think of it this way. Some people say, if it aint broke don't fix it. I don't know that you need to upgrade this year, but you should plan on it if you ever think you will want to as you probably won't be able to just jump easily to whatever comes beyond version 2011.
Staying with the times is always a good thing, but I wouldn't make it your first priority though if you are happy with 4.0. Also reviewing the new features outlined in the links above will help you determine how much benefit you will get from an upgrade.
I'll second Jamie for the most part here. Such a decision should be made on the basis of business need.
As suggested, begin to plan for the upgrade - do code reviews, time estimates for conversion, resourcing requirements. Also review the enhancements available to you in CRM 2011 and what they mean to your business. Finally, weigh all of that against current business enhancement requirements, because if the conversion task is significant, you won't be getting any "real" work done while the conversion takes place.
In any event, you can't make an informed decision before the preliminary analysis is done.

There are some great features in CRM 2011 and in November there will be a lot more (cross browser, mobile apps etc), it also looks a lot better
The question you need to think about is do you want the new functionality in CRM 2011 or is CRM 4 ok.
CRM 2011 customizations are quite different from CRM 4. The javascript is completely different and the .NET code is very different as well.
It also depends on your customizations and if you have many unsupported changes.
I would install CRM 2011 on a new server and try upgrading your CRM 4 organisation to see how your customizations come across, this would give you an idea of how much effort it would take to upgrade the functionality.
