    This message has popped up each day for the last two days.  The first time I did click on the "Go online and resolve now" link, but it didn't seem to do very much that I noticed.

    There's nothing amiss in the report - I suspect that your problem is the results of a 'race condition', often caused by overactive security software, or the system re-optimising the boot process.  

    Usually it goes away after a couple of days, and it's very difficult to nail down the culprit anyhow.

    What security software are you currently running? - what other Anti-Virus products have EVER been installed on this machine?

    First, thank you for your help and analysis.

    I am running AVAST (purchased version) continuously.

    I run Malwarebytes and CCleaner often.

    I can't recall if I ever loaded Spybot on this machine or not; it's not running or loaded now.

    There is a trial version of Norton on the machine--I never activated it and don't run it.

    Norton could be causing some of your problems -

    Download the Norton Removal Tool from here https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

    Close all other programs, then run the tool. When it's complete, reboot the machine  whether it asks for it or not.

    After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    NETSH WINSOCK RESET

    You'll be advised to reboot - do so.

    then post another MGADiag report.

    That hasn't changed the MGADiag results at all - which it shouldn't have done :) has the behaviour on booting changed at all?

    I have not noticed anything pecular and/or different on booting.  I do see the yellow shield with the "!" mark on the shut down button indicting updates are ready to be installed.  On the last shut down, I didn't notice any updates being installed and the shield was there then too.
