Moderators Marking Answers

Question
-
Not so much that I have a problem with moderators marking answers to questions but marking multiple posts (often posted by themselves) as the actual answer, rather than marking the post as helpful. Even posts that are just helpful get marked as the answer. It just gets a little annoying, especially when I have something helpful to add (occasionally) and it just gets completely overlooked.
Would be nice for the community to get some feedback from moderators, rather than themselves!

Only the thread starter should be able to mark a response as the answer. Many have complained; but nothing is done.

A lot of times, though, the thread starter never returns for the answer, and meanwhile, someone has posted a really good answer that should be preserved for the future. I think somebody should have the authority to clean things up.Sunday, April 10, 2011 3:14 PM

But marking a post as the answer is not cleaning things up, it is guesswork. I am not suggesting that the good post be deleted, just that only the OP can know if it answers the question posed.I would not mind so much if it were after an interval when the thread could be considered abandoned, say 3 months. I think sites like Experts Exchange work like this. But imagine what a mess Experts Exchange would be if the "Experts" approved their own answers.

Maybe there could be some kind of limitation on the number of posts you can make if you have previous unresolved posts.
It just gets frustrating sometimes, especially when people go out of their way to contribute to questions only to find their comments ignored.
