wga failed validation

Question

Hi. My name is Robert. i have a computer that had Vista on it and i took it to a local(now out of business) computer store for repair/virus removal. they had "upgraded it to windows 7" but after about a month it started saying i may be a victim of software counterfeiting. eventually i bought a new computer and got on with life. now i'm wondering if it is possible to upgrade to windows 10. i have the recovery DVD from toshiba and a matching key for it on the bottom of the computer, but installing from the recovery disk never initializes the recovery process.
is there a way to start the windows 10 upgrade process?
trying to do it made me do the WGA tool, and it failed. the result is copy/pasted below.
good or bad news, thank you in advance.
-Robert

Unfortunately, you have a counterfeit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate edition installed on your PC. You will not be able to perform a direct upgrade to Windows 10. I suggest backing up your important personal files, purchase a genuine edition of Windows 10, then perform a "clean install".
