sadly giving up on MSN "Crawler"... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I was trying to get my site listed in MSN live for more than four months now...

this is what I had to go through...and as of today the site is still not listed... and the emails i get from MSN live support team truly make no sense...

As I've understood from our ongoing email communication with MSN Live support, this issue should have been resolved by now.here is a recap of our emails, four months and counting, which have bore no fruit whatsoever:

On February 6 we received a Support Ticket Number (1057917937) (needless to say we tried everything we could to resolve this situation from our side and made sure the site is 100% in compliance with MSN live guidelines).
Later that day Marlowe(from support) forwarded our email to a Live Search Product Specialists for review, and asked for our patience.

On February 7 MSN live support said: "We do not have an exact date for fixing this issue, but our plan is to have it resolved near the end of spring."

MSN Support was quick to ask for feedback on February 9, well before spring and the solution to the problem arrived.

An update MSN live support sent on February 11 told us nothing new.

On March 26, MSN live support explained that the index is so large that changes take time and asked for our patience once again...

Slow crawler indexing was the case explained also on March 28.

Good news on April 7. MSN Live support said: "Your issue is under review at this time."

Which was almost the exact wording as the message we received on April 18: "Your issue is still under investigation at this time."

It is clearly shame that I have had to email with you for months and still have no straight answer, not to mention a solution to the issue.

It will be an even greater shame if I will have to give up on MSN Live Search and settle for other search engines, Google and Yahoo come to mind.

My frustration mounts with every email I receive that fails to addresses the issue, not to mention having to watch low quality content, competing sites, with my site brand name keywords on your results.
Please advise me, once and for all, what I should do. At this point I am willing to submit my site from scratch all over again, or give up on MSN altogether.

    Any advise will be appreciated...

just don't tell me to have more patience Wink

    BTW: website url is onlinecasinoreports.com

  • Hi Sam

Your not alone with your frustration there are millions of us who are feeling the errors of Live Search. There automatic replies tell us to make sure our sites come up to live search standards but why should we when every other search engine on the planet doesnt seem to have a problem even with the poorest designed sites.

I also had the promise everything would be sorted by spring. Now moving into the summer months I feel the error they made back in October 07 will never be fixed. This is probably why the are so desperate to buy Yahoo, they keep making bids but keep getting turned down. Hold in Yahoo make them pay for all the business they have lost for millions of us.

  • Hi Andy,

    thanks for your reply...

It is a shame and it does explains the confusing emails, maybe they are automatically generated...otherwise it just doesn't make any sense....

  • HI Sam

It's really difficult to get past the automated email reply stage and when you do it's like some retarded help desk system where they look for keywords in your message hoping that they have an answer to the billions of useless answers they have already given and thats why most of them never make sense.

This forum is a MS product (with loads of bugs) it's a shame that someone with a little more knowledge can't spend 10 minutes and read some of these posts just to see how p***** *** worldwide we are about the serious *** up they made last year.

I don't know about you but Live Search is losing me serious money because for no reason after 2.5 years they decided to drop every single page of my website design site.

Have you had the reply from James yet? Generally starts My name is james and i'm here to help ....

  • Yes, oddly enough, same old story with "james"...

  • So how big is MS corp and how many employees do they have? so whats the chances of the same person answering our questions every time if there not automated?

Have you tried signing in to our Webmaster tools and reviewing if you are being blocked or penalized?   I recommend you review this and then re-review our Guidelines.

  • Jeremiah ,

Yes I've tried signing in to live webmaster tools and all I see there is "No data is available" eventhought the site is verified by xml file... and I've re-reviewed live guidelines all is ok... whats next?!

what do you mean by "reviewing if you are being blocked or penalized?" all the information I see under the webmaster tools account is "No data is available"....

I can supply you with the account details so you can login yourself and see what's going on there...

  • Hello again, sorry for the separated post but we've been trying to get a solution for that problem for some time now...

you said on last post that we should check if the site is penalized or blocked but how do we do that? - if all we see in webmaster tools in all section including:

    Top Outbound Links

is "No data is available." the only place where you see some data is the back links....

    please advise

  • Hi OCR,

  • I've noticed they are big on telling you that they are "looking into it" but small on results as well. MSN crawler visits my site (www.floridasunshineshuttle.com) about once every 15 days in comparision Google and Yahoo are on my site every day numerous times through out the day.

MSN is soooooo helpful when signing up for their paid advetising, but have a problem being indexed or showing up in results and they are no where to be found. I really do hope that their goal isn't to create revenue by having people pay in order for their sites to show up. I am seriously thinking about canceling out my advertising with MSN since I don't show up anyhow. I am on the first page and in instances in the first position on many keywords on google yet barely even find my site directly entering my site on msn.

Personally I'm begining to think they run their search engine like they do their software. Halfbaked with tons of bugs noone has any idea how to fix nor do they even care to fix it.

  • I've been pinging them fairly regularly, but have not heard back yet.

    Monday, June 16, 2008 7:17 PM
  • The same problem is happenning with my site. It is good in all search engines but live. It is pretty disappointing to see it.

Though it is good to see your support!

  • I find it kind of funny…

Have you checked the webmaster Tool to see if you are penalized? What does really webmaster tool give you? It’s so poor and gives you so little information compare to Google webmaster tool, or is there some hidden text I have overlooked?

This post has been going on for 1 month now, and still there has not yet been any helpful respond.

It took me one and a half year before Live Search started to generate any traffic and indexed my website in a serious way.

With this kind of response, I hardly find it useful at all to post here, unless you remember to check for answers 4 months later.

I would recommend you to spend you’re time getting the best output for Google and Yahoo, and then Live Search will index you’re website when they have some spear time in the future..

  • You've got no chance mate. Microsoft Live support consists of three blokes and one woman sitting in an office playing XBox 360 games all day. Thats why nothing ever gets resolved.

I will close this reply with the famous Microsoft Live Search standard email reply "I will be temporarily closing off the case on my end, but if further assistance is needed please email me back and I will re-open the case for further investigation.

    Thank you,

  • I came to this forum to try and find some answers but I shall probably just give up because it appears that MSNbot is just C***.  I started optimizing my site about 9 months ago, Google and Yahoo have both indexed over 500 pages of my site, MSN have managed to index one!  Sometimes the Live Webmaster tools show that 2 pages are indexed but then it goes back to one.  I have top 10 results for many keywords on Google and Yahoo but can not be found on MSN unless I search for my domain name or my home page title text in quotes.

I have some data on my Live Webmaster Tools, it does show the top 10 performing incoming links, number 2 is my home page!  Not sure what that is telling me. The summary lists only my home page in the top 5 pages. I can not see why anyone would what to use these tools.

Is it really worth trying to get traffic from MSN?  Or should I spend the time on the top 2 search engines?

  • It looks like your site is finally up and in the index.  Just try searching on {online casino report} and you should be in the top of the results.

    Woohoo, something got fixed!
