"Automatic" WebPart Filter in a WebPart page (PWA 2010) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is it possible to use (without too much programming) a WebPart Filter which displays the list of all the projects the user has the permission to see?

  • Hi,

The only way I can think of doing this would be to leverage Steven Sanderlin's MSDN article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee862408(v=office.12).aspx which walks through filtering Reporting Services parameters using the Project Server security model. Unfortunately there is a stack of programming needed to implement.

Potentially if there is a way you could determine the person reading the page, perhaps via jQuery and looking at the page content, you could do a Repoting DB lookup to pull down all the projects for that PM.

If this is for a dashboard, as per your other questions, they are typically built so everyone can see them. If there is information you wish to secure, perhaps you need to consider if a general dashboard is best machanism, or perhaps creating an individual project dashboard within the specific team site (that way the project site security will restrict who can see it).

Hope this gives you some ideas,
