PIC with one server

Question

Best Practices and security aside (just for a minute). Can you do PIC with just one standard server? Or is MUST to have an edge server?
Thanks,

I am very sorry but all external (internet) traffic requires an EDGE Server
So PIC also requires EDGE server not only from security or best practice but it is impossible to use PIC without an EDGE

You can find this information in the OCS Planning Guide
If you want to provide this functionality
You must deploy this server role in addition to Standard Edition Server or Enterprise pool
…and this client
External User Access
Access Edge Server *
HTTP reverse proxy*
Communicator 2005 or 2007
Federation
Public IM Connectivity
