Windows Vista Genuine update problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey all,

I am running into a problem with Vista, and I was hoping someone could help me.

I purchased a HP Pavillion G61 laptop while living in Italy. This laptop was purchased at a reputable store, (MediaWorld, which is an Italian version of a store like Best Buy) and the laptop came pre-loaded with Windows Vista.

I recently came back to Canada on vacation, and when I did, I changed the time zone to Eastern Standard Time.

After doing that, I started receiving error messages stating Vista was now invalid.

I've called the verification line, and went through the process of verification, only to get to the end to receive a message saying my code was invalid.

     So my questions are this;

1). How could my copy of Windows suddenly become invalid?

2). Is there any way of verifying Vista?

3). If I continue to just ignore my error message, what will happen to Vista?

Thanks for any and all advice,

    Paul

  • Hello PBEnglish,

Windows Acivation Technologies sees the alterations made in the Windows 7 system files that allow the use of non-native language packs in editions of W7 that do not support language packs as an attack on protected system files and will flag the Windows 7 installation as nongenuine.

So the solution is going to revolve around how you plan to continue to use the computer.

If you want to continue to have the use of more than one display language on this computer, the correct solution would be to first uninstall whatever it is that has installed the extra language packs [and who knows, this might necessitate running the computer's original factory recovery], then activating and validating Windows, then purchasing an AnyTime Upgrade from W7 Home Premium to W7 Ultimate (the only consumer edition that supports nonnative language packs), then installing the English language pack.

OTOH, if you only need English on this computer, you can concentrate on options that would install an English version of W7 Home Premium on this computer, such as contacting Hewlett-Packard tech support or customer service to see if they can sell you a set of Recovery Discs in English that would work on this computer, or purchasing an English version of W7 Home Premium to install on this computer (I think an OEM license would be OK and would be cheaper that full retail).

  • Hello PBEnglish,

Do you have a program called Vistalizator installed?  Vistalizator and equivalent programs permit the installation and use of Windows Language Packs on editions of Windows Vista (and Windows 7) that are not originally designed to support such language packs.

If so, please review this forum sticky post:  http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinewindows7/thread/6f6b1cb8-e84e-4c1f-a2ac-181a77d2f772

    Hello Dan,

I do not have this program installed. I've done a search to see if it was somehow installed without my knowledge, and it's not showing up in any of my installed programs.

     Thanks, and regards,

  • Did you have a shop install windows, did you ask for windows of s specific language? Did you purchase media from a third party? or download an ISO.

Language packs can also be added to an windows installation image with the same net effect of replacing those files. If you are absolutely sure vistalizator is not installed then your next, best option is to start a no cost support incident.

    Hi Carl,

It was a store bought computer, with an Italian version of Windows installed. I had them install English language packs to Windows.

I've searched through my computer and vistalizator is not showing up anywhere. Now, admittedly, I am not very computer savvy, but I don't ever remember installing anything with that name on this computer, nor is it showing up in any searches.

    Thanks,

I wonder if that KB link should be added to the Vistalizator sticky, Thanks Carey for linking to that.
