my paid for XP is authentic. RRS feed

  • Question

  • It came with the dell precision m90 I bought.  When I sent the laptop into dell for repair, they replaced the MB.  After a crash I reloaded XP with the XP disk originally supplied to me by dell at time I purchased the machine. I am accused of using pirated software at start-up, which is absolutely false.  I read that this false accusation is triggered because the CPU was changed?  Is that right?  How do I stop this annoying and false accusation of theft?

    Thanks.

  • Hello authenticxp,

My first suggestion is to follow the steps in the Microsoft support doc KB926333 "Windows XP-based computers might be marked as non-genuine when incorrect or corrupted data.dat file is present" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926333.

If that does not resolve the issue, download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in this thread.

    Thank you,
