I have tried to follow advice given in this forum. I am not given the option to activate by phone when I type slui.exe 4. I continue to get error code 0xC004f050

description ;THE SOFTWARE LICENSING SERVICE REPORTED THAT THE PRODUCT KEY IS IN VALID
the link http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/comparekeys.aspx indicates my key does not match my COA KEY.
If I choose to use the recovery software on my partitioned hard drive will my COA key (which microsoft has confirmed by e-mail is valid )work .  The above link only showed the last 5 digits of what I believe is the oem key from my pre install Vista home premium.  Any advice would be welcomed  . I have had the computer since new 2 years ago without any issues.   Thanks
Do I have any other options?

  • Hello LHICK,

It appears that Vista's Licensing Store may be corrupt or unreadable for some reason.  Please try the below steps to recreate the Licensing Store.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate. (Use the Product Key found on the sticker on the side or bottom of your PC and Activate by Phone)

    Thank you,
