  • Question

  • Is there going to be any separate certification for Vail? I'm thinking that a combo Windows 7 / Vail certification - 'Microsoft Home Computing Specialist' or similar - would be a good sales tool for the home market. The current Windows 7 certification is too large-scale oriented, as is that for 2008 Server

  • If you can get certified in windows 7, and server 2008, i'm pretty sure that you can consider yourself certified in WHS 2011.  You have to remember these certifications are aimed for people who are looking for jobs in the industry.  Windows 7 being considered the client, and server 2008 being the server.  It's a great edge to have when looking for a job.

There may be a WHS 2011 certification, but I doubt there will be one for both Win 7 and WHS 2011. BTW, Windows Home Server 2011 seems to be the official name for Vail.

Well yes, but both those certifications are aimed at the enterprise market. Home users aren't going to do scripted installs or worry about BranchCache. They need someone who's clued in about HomeGroups, setting up the server, configuring clients, managing backups, etc. It's a very different focus.

  • But yet the same certification.  I just did the windows 7 cert, and it covered all of that as well.

Looking at my Windows 7 exam book, I don't see anything about WHS there.

  • It is the same certification for windows 7 no matter what market you are planning to work in.  And the what 4 things you listed there are pretty much all there is to home server.  I'm pretty sure microsoft knows that putting together a certification process for something so simple would be a waste of time and money.
