Captivate SWF files - Too big? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I dropped the SWF file from a Captivate project into the Demonstration panel and in preview, it displays but does not run. This file is over 4 megs. I tested a much smaller file that included manadatory user interactivity within the Captivate SWF and it seemd to work fine. Is there a size limit or other concerns I should be aware of?

  • What size is the demo set to?  LCDS Help has the following info on using the demo template regarding sizing: "826x529 demo WMV or SWF file."

    Using the Demonstration Template

Demonstrations are created outside of the LCDS. The LCDS supports WMV or SWF demonstrations.

    1. In the Course Structure pane, select the page you want to author.
    2. In the Templates pane, click the Watch icon, and then click Demonstration.
    3. Complete the fields for both the Launch Page (at left) and for the Demo (at right):
    • Launch Page: The launch page should provide a short introduction and some context for the demo. The launch page will include a launch button that, when clicked, displays the demo in a pop-up window.
      • Picture. Click Browse to add an appropriate 145x145 JPEG or PNG graphic from your course media folder.
      • Alt Text. Add alt text to correspond with the picture added. Alt text will display when a user's mouse pauses over the graphic, or when graphics are disabled. Alt text is also read aloud by JAWS reader software.
      • Paragraph. Add a short introduction to provide some context for the demo and iterate what will be learned.
    • Demo: The demo launches in its own pop-up window after the learner clicks Launch from the launch page.
      • Demo. Click Browse to add the desired 826x529 demo WMV or SWF file from your course media folder.
      • Transcript. Insert the demo transcript text.
    1. Preview your demo, make adjustments as needed, and then Save the page.
