MCPD - ASP.Net Developer 4, 70-513 required if 70-503 done? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Does anyone know if you need to do 70-513 to get MCPD ASP.Net 4 if you already have 70-503? I've just done 70-503 a few months ago. 70-513 looks quite similar.

This site has a post that indicates that 513 isn't required: http://david.gardiner.net.au/2010/07/passed-70-515-70-516-and-70-519.html

    I don't really want to do 70-513 if I don't have to.

    Cheers.

  • Hi,

regarding to http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-vstudio.aspx#tab2 and http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-503&locale=en-us, the 70-503 exam does not count towards MCPD Web 4.

The link you gave was a report about the beta exams and not about the final exams.

But of course: This is just my interpretation of the public available information. Maybe you also want to contact your regional support center (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/help/help-default.aspx).

    With kind regards,

  • Hi,

I have done the exams/certifications and can confirm you need to do 70-513, it does cover the new material on 4.0 (not very much new stuff) and I think it is much easier than 70-503.

It should not take much effort to pass if you have 70-503 as you say they do cover a lot of the same material..

    Good Luck,

Also 70-503 is not standalone it requires 70-536 to get the MCTS WCF 3.5 Cert.

  • you have to remember that a certification is all about knowing the new trends of the products and the industry, I know that MCTS 70-513 (WCF 3.x) has a lot in common to  70-513 (WCF 4) but if you want to be a MCPD Framework 4 you would have to probe that you know the new "stuff" that comes with it, besides if you have two certifications of different versions of the same technology shows that you are seriously into that technology. Hope it helps :)

  • Shame that you need to pay up for another exam if it covers the same stuff. I know there's some new stuff in .Net 4 for WCF but is it enough to make everyone take a new exam. Its material covered already.

    Cheers for the info.
