Windows cannot access ... personal folder RRS feed

    When I try to connect to a personal folder, I get "Windows cannot access \\WHS\Users\Nigel"

    I have reset the WHS password, but it doesn't ask for one when I try to open the folder.

    [Later] D'OH! Just remembered that I didn't have a password for Windows. Made it the same and I can now access it from one of my PCs, but not the other PC (same login and pasword).

    Any ideas?

    My user name on the PC is the same as the personal folder. I have changed my Full Name to be the same, problem still there.

    Have you tried rebooting both client and server?  Can you access other shares on your server from that user name?  Is the Guest account enabled on your server?

    All sorted now. Although I changed the server password, I didn't realise I also had to change the user password as well.

    That's normal.  If you want seemless access to your server from a client, the user name and password on each client must match exactly the user name and password stored on the server.  Otherwise, it will prompt you for a user name and password to access the shares.

    Can you access any shares from any client?  If so, is the Guest account on the server enabled?  If so, can you still access the shares on the server after disabling the Guest account, then rebooting the client?
