Do we need latest rollup for CRM 4.0 to migrate to CRM 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello..

I am planning to migrate CRM4.0 to 2011. I am having rollup 10 installed on 4.0.

    Now to migrate to 2011,

    1. Do I need to install the latest rollup for 4.0 or else 2011 installation takes care of those things?

    2. Similary, for outlook

    -Thanks

  • Hello,

As far as I know - you don't need it.

  • The Upgrade section in the Installing Guide of the CRM 2011 Implementation Guide recommends the application of the latest rollup prior to upgrade.  If you're installing, configuring or maintaining CRM deployments, and you haven't read through this guide, you should do so:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=9886ab96-3571-420f-83ad-246899482fb4

That said... I've done a number of CRM 4.0 to 2011 upgrades now, only a couple of which were updated with the latest Rollup prior to the upgrade being performed.  No ill effects have been discovered.

For the Outlook client, the CRM 4.0 Outlook client should be un-installed prior to the installation of the CRM 2011 Outlook client.

  • I personally have a hunch that rollup 7 or later would work.

The official word from Microsoft in the implementation guide does say they recommend installing the latest rollup first as Pogo stated.

  • In addition, the implementation guide states if you wish to use the v4.0 Outlook client to connect to the CRM2011 server, rollup 7 is required on the Outlook clients.

  • Givern they keep releasing rollups for v4 post the release of 2011, I'd say while it is smart of to do, it is probably not necessary.
