  • You need to replace the hard drive - Bad Sector erors usually mean that there is physical damage to the disk, and that will only get worse over time.

Back up your data to external storage NOW in case the disk fails abruptly, and then plan your replacement.

  • This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers

try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

    (you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

  • Thanks, Noel.

I followed the instructions and installed the drivers as specified but got another warning message this morning.  I ran chkdsk and sfc.  Chkdsk noted some bad sectors which it fixed and SFC reported resource corruptions:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of th
    em.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

If you need the CBS.log, please let me know.  Thanks again.

  • Check your Event Log - Windows Application logs - Wininit events.

    the CHKDSK results are there,

If there's a single 'bad sector' present, the whole disk must be viewed as suspect, and external backups done before attempting anything else.

  • Thanks for checking back, Noel.  Yes, there are some bad sectors and clusters.  here is the chkdsk results:

     147178495 KB total disk space.
      39770332 KB in 75886 files.
         54996 KB in 16770 indexes.
            88 KB in bad sectors.
238159 KB in use by the system.
65536 KB occupied by the log file.
     107114920 KB available on disk.

Windows has fixed these.  So I should just do a backup?  What else can I try?

    Thanks.

  • You need to replace the hard drive - Bad Sector erors usually mean that there is physical damage to the disk, and that will only get worse over time.

Back up your data to external storage NOW in case the disk fails abruptly, and then plan your replacement.
