how to create a quote in crm 2011? RRS feed

  • Question

  • How do I create a quote in CRM 2011?  I did some basic googling but didn't seem to find a straightforward answer?  Are users supposed to create quotes off of the Opportunity view?  I think I read 1 source that suggested that?

  • You can create a Quote from an Opportunity, or from an Account/Contact, or by clicking New Quote from the Quotes views.

I think ideally you would start out on an Account or Contact record and create an Opportunity - this will automatically map data from the Account/Contact to the Opportunity. From the Opportunity you can create a Quote - it will then be linked in CRM to the Opportunity for tracking purposes. From Quote you can go to, Order and then from Order to Invoice and they will all be linked.

You Can also go from Account/Contact to Quote and skip the Opportunity depends on your organization's requirements.

So mapping data from one record to the next and linking the records together are the keys.

  • Hi,

You can create quotes a few ways. Firstly, open up an opportunity and
assuming the form hasn't been customised to remove this feature, you can click
on the 'Quotes' tab in the left hand navigation pane (or scroll down the form
until to see the 'quotes' sub-grid), click on the quotes sub-grid then click
'Add new quote' in the ribbon.

Secondly, you can click on 'quotes' from the main navigation, create a new
one then click on the 'Get Products' button. This will enable you to choose an
opportunity and 'pull' information from it including any opportunity product
    lines.

Finally, you can create quotes from within an account or contact form by clicking on the 'Quotes' left hand navigation item then 'Add New Quote' in the ribbon

I hope that answers your question
