windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected

    Question

  • I am running Windows 7 home premium. My laptop, a Dell studio 1745 won't boot windows. I got an error code 2000-0142, status 79. I booted my computer from my installation disk & went to the command prompt. I ran chkdsk on all my drives. It found a problem on drive E. It says to run chicks /f. When I do it says "windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected". Chkdsk doesn't find any errors on disk C or D. When I put another wardrobe in the laptop it boots up fine. Is there any way to save my pictures & documents?

  • Hello,

The Windows Desktop Perfmon and Diagnostic tools forum is to discuss performance monitor (perfmon), resource monitor (resmon), and task manager, focusing on HOW-TO, Errors/Problems, and usage scenarios.

As the question is off topic here, I am moving it to the Where is the Forum... forum.
