Mesh and SSDS

Question

Hi,
I've had an idea regarding usage of Mesh with SQL Server Data Services and I thought I'd put it out on here seeing as I can't think of anywhere better to put it.
basically, I figured "wouldn't it be great if the SSDS team enabled the exposing of data from SSDS via Feedsync". In other words, build an adapter exposed data from SSDS as a feedsync feed thus enabling Mesh to interact with it.
The feeds could be per authority (i.e. a list of containers), per container (i.e. a list of all the entities in a container), per entity kind (i.e. a subset of all the entities in a container) or per entity (i.e. a list of elements).
Does that sound like a good idea? If so, do you think you could head over to the SSDS team and have a word with them and see if they think this is a good idea? I know its nothing that the Mesh team should be building but you might have more sway over the SSDS team than we do y'know.
cheers
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
I've done a little digging and I can tell you that SSDS will support Feedsync via Microsoft Sync Framework sometime in the future (though I have no timeframe - sorry).
Thanks for all your participation on our forums,

Here's my story on potential SSDS and Live Mesh interop:
- Pablo Castro and the Astoria team are working on a sync model for "Astoria Offline."
- The SSDS team said they "will support the full EDM/EF/ADO.Net V3 model in due time."
- Nigel Ellis demonstrated in his Introducing SQL Server Data Services session at MIX08 using the Sync Framework to synchronize vCard contact data between Microsoft Access 2007 and SSDS v1.
- Francois Ajenstadt, director of project management for SQL Server, said "The goal is to bring the API's between SSDS and Astoria closer together closer to Release."
- Ari Amiga says the Mesh team has been "working a lot with the Astoria team to make sure that our query syntax is the same, our URL syntax is the same, so it all looks nice and beautiful."
- Astoria now uses, Mesh supports and SSDS will support the Atom Publication Protocol (AtomPub).

Thanks Roger. Great summary. I've no doubt that SSDS interacting with Mesh is somethig that we'll see support for at some point. I take your point about Pablo's team (I follow that stuff closely as well), I just wonder if SSDS will support Feedsync directly.
Interesting stuff anyway.

Ben,
Can I assume then that we will be able to synchronise data from our Mesh to a SSDS authority (and vice versa)?
Thanks in advance.

Jamie,
We're not able to promise sync to Authorities at this time. The answer I received was "Mesh to SSDS Container, yes, eventually." The developer I've been speaking with, though, was interested in what sorts of scenarios you had in mind for syncing from Live Mesh to SSDS Authority.
I hope that helps. :)

OK. Well I'm currently building a command-line app that captures information from the machine on which it is running and posts that information to SSDS (or it will do when I finish it :) )
The data in SSDS is not really in a human-readable format so I figured that Live Mesh would be an ideal candidate for displaying that information in a manner that is more useful for the user. i.e. Live mesh is the client for my data stored in SSDS.
make sense?

Hi Jamie,
I've passed your scenario on to someone on the SSDS team, and I've been told that there will be a blog post on the SSDS blog that may answer some of your questions.

Excellent. I've got that on my reader so I'll look forward to it.
cheers Ben.
