8059 message duplicate product key RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I recently had a problem with my hard drive, which required replacement and thus reinstallation of all software inc one care.

However, when I tried to activate it, my live id states that it is not associated with one care. I do have 2 linked id's, but neither seems to be associated.

I do have the disk and product key, but I cannot seem to get any useful help from the help sites. There seems to be nowhere within onecare that I can click an "activate button" as far as I can find - so help here would be appreciated.

    onecare version is 2.5.2900.20

I have looked through some of the threads, but cannot find anything useful.

I have tried looking at the billing site, but there seems to be nothing here either.

This is the message I got when trying to contact support:

    Instructions from onecare...

    Open OneCare

    Click Help

    Click Windows Live OneCare Help

Then click Show me more topics

Click Contact Support in the middle of the page

Then click Contact Support in the lower right corner

    Click Get Support

Select Billing Support or Technical Support

Then select No. This is a new issue

press continue ( no other viable options as far as I can see)

Then it wants me to sign in but comes up with this error:

If you have an active subscription, which is what was created when you activated on the first computer, you need to use the same LiveID on the subsequent activations. You can't use the same key twice, hence the 8059 error. If you are arriving at a screen to purchase or provide a token, you are likely not using the same LiveID as the subscription ID.

Note that linked IDs mean nothing to a susbcription service. All that means is that you can easily switch between the IDs on the sites that support this in the live.com sphere.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate with.

If the activation dialog already contains a LiveID from a prior attempt or one used in trial mode, but this is not the one you need to activate with to associate it with your subscription, see this post for how to reset this - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2776450&SiteID=2

For more information see Instant Help - http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=onecarev2&mkt=en-us&querytype=topic&query=OneCare_PROC_FindLiveIDHelp.htm
