I'm having Vista and just installed .NET framework 3.5 but installer of the new LiveWriter CTP tells me that it needs a .NET framework installed.
Which version should I have or can I overrule this check and somehow just continue.
I have LiveWriter v2008 (build 12.0.1370.325) installed.

Hi Ronald,
Rebooting and such did not help.
Uninstalling my current LiveWriter and trying to reinstall the beta but that didn't help either.
Uninstalling .net 2.0 is not possible and reinstalling that did not work as it is already installed.
But I finally managed. As the installation did not ask me if I wanted writer.msi to install something (the beloved UAC), I figured out that the installation routine did not had the permission to access the registry to check wether .net was installed.
right clicking on the MSI did not gave me the option to start it as admin but launching the prompt (CMD) as admin and starting the MSI with "start writer.msi" did the trick.

Hi Pieter,
The Writer Technical Preview will only work with .NET 2.0 or 3.0.
It will not work against the .NET 3.5 Beta at this time.
Sorry for this inconvenience. Please try installing one of the supported versions of .NET and re-install.

.NET 2.0 SP1 and .NET 3.0 are prerequirements for .NET 3.5. .NET 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 run on the 2.0 runtime.

Pieter,
We look in the registry to see if .NET 2.0 is installed:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\policy\v2.0
If there is a value named "50727", then we consider .NET 2.0 to be installed. What do you see under that key?
And also, are you using Vista x86 or x64? (Though we'd expect both to work fine.) Thanks...Monday, June 2, 2008 11:34 PMModerator -
Hi Joe,sp
The key is there with value 50727-50727.
I'm running vista x86 (Vista Business as if that would matter) with SP1 and all fixes and patches.

Hi Pieter,
For some reason this confusing dialog shows up if you try to install the same version of the product. Chances are you already installed it, possibly while Writer was running, and you will need to either restart the app, or restart the computer.
If those don't work, then can you uninstal Writer and then re-install the preview from our blog entry?
One of those should do the trick for you! (BTW your registry value is fine and the final version number will be: 14.0.3913.522)- Proposed as answer by Ronald - MSFT Tuesday, June 3, 2008 9:05 PM

Pieter,
Glad you got it working!!!
Have you done anything special concerning UAC? I would like to get an in-house repro of this problem and the default behavior I have observed is that the .msi will always request elevated privileges...Wednesday, June 4, 2008 7:27 PM
