WHS 2011 Remote Access Video Aspect Ratio RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just installed the lasted version of WHS 2011 and everything seems to be working fine except when I stream outside of my local network. I have all my video collection saved as h.264 with ac3 autio in an m2ts container. Inside my network everything plays fine natively within windows and streaming through WHS Web Portal works fine. However when i attemp to stream a 16:9 video through the web interface over the internet the video comes accross as 4:3, basically making it unusable. I am wondering if there is a fix for this or if it is a work in progress. Thanks.

  • It seems that this is the same issue as on the Technical preview.

WHS dev rejected the issue on the silverlight ressource that allow the transcoding "on the fly" when bandwith is limited.

    Hi,

Thanks for your bug. The incorrect ratio when streaming some kind of videos types is a known issue that is related to silverlight. The Silverlight team is doing their best to address it.
This feedback is now escalated to our Product Team for the IE9 issue. The Product team will follow up with you if they require additional information.

    Best wishes,
Windows Home and Small Business Server Team

  • Anyone like to wager a bet that the "due to current priorities" is ship date?

  • You will have to use USPS Express Mail (domestic) to get her to my APO location.  FEDEX, UPS, DHL, etc. can't enter the location.

My toes might have too much toe jam for taste, so what else does she like?

  • Same problem here, but with Recorded TV files in Media Center 7.   My prime-time TV 16X9 HD recordings display correctly in Media Center on my local network.  However, streaming through WHS 2011 outside the network displays the recordings in 4X3 aspect ratio.   The streaming quality looks good, but the apsect ratio distortion makes them unwatchable.  Hope this is fixed for the RTM.

  • Okay, got plenty of milk, peaches, and kibbles.  Watermelons will start coming in April.  Send her on, just package some baby bottle nipples as there are no babies here.
