Trouble: I can not get Windows update to install the updates after downloading them RRS feed

  • Question

  • Here is my trouble, or rather the trouble my folks are having with their computer and I am trying to help them with. Their HP media center computer was not keeping up to date even with the automatic updates turned on. I traced the problem back to WGA and have on 2 seperate occasions since December last year had to reinstall the KB892130 WGA update. Once it was installed, I was able to see the various updates for the computer. I would then download them, at first together then when that wouldn't work seperately. Once they would download, windows update would (and will) start the installation process only to terminate a few minutes later and tell me that the installation failed yet it never provides me with an error code. Can anyone help me with this problem? Here is my MGA diagnostic info:

    Xwiser,

Your issue appears to be Windows Update and not Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) related. This Forum is only for support of WGA. Your issue appears to be outside the scope of the Genuine Advantage forum. Please visit https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527 and submit a FREE support request for Windows Update problem which you are experiencing.

You may also want to go through Internet Explorer to download/install your updates.  To check and make sure that your active x is enabled and such you can use the diag checklist found here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/

Hopefully the above information will resolve your problem. Should it not then hopefully I have provided you with enough information to get a resolution. Take care and should you have future WGA problems please visit me again here :-)

  • xwiser,

I can see right away what the issue is and why you are not passing validation. The product key installed on this computer was not assigned by Microsoft. The key is counterfeit and was most likely generated by a key generator. The product key found on your computer has been detected on multiple computers. Product keys are only allowed to be used on one computer unless otherwise specified in the end user licensing agreement (EULA). You will find numerous sites where this key has been posted.  Use your favorite search engine and paste in the last 15 digits of the product key:  9TCCK-JPCBM-B2FQ8.

Your best course of action is to contact technical support of the manufacturer you brought the computer from. Inquire what the cost is for a recovery/restoration media disc and order the appropriate recovery media for your model number. This disc will restore your computer back to factory settings. There are other options available also such as purchasing software directly from Microsoft @ http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/.

Also please research the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) for all the correct usage agreements. Please contact us if you have any further questions.

    Dear LoriMS,

Thank you for your help. I would like to point out that I have a genuine license number sticker as verified via the Microsoft website. Therefore, the number is genuine on my computer. It is also the only computer used in their home. I believe (I will have to double-check with the folks though) that they have the original restoration cd's that came with the computer. But I will have them contact HP just to get an additional set on the off chance that they do not. As they bought the computer in good faith from the manufacturer, one would hope that they would correct the issue in good faith.   . Hey we can hope. LOL thanks again for your help.
