  • Excuse the question but do youthink that there's a way to fix this... I've been checking post in which they have been asked to run the same commands as you are asking me and most end up doing a re-install or fix re-install ( I think :) in which they need to enter their product key and the problem is that the product key that is shown in my computer is the retail key... and I wonder is there's a way to activate my windows without entering my product key because it was activated previously and now it isn't.

I kindly appreciate your support in this issue and your effort to help me.

This is what came out of the command you asked me to entered.

I removed the WAT and the message is gone. will that affect the performance of my computer?

Thanx for the help and your assistance.

  • The reason that the notification disappears when the WAT update is uninstalled is simply because the system can no longer test for the affected files.

It has NOT cured the underlying problem.

If you want to leave things as they currently are, that's fine - but I would suspect that you will have more problems down the line.

  • Windows thinks the Licensing Store has been tampered - so is asking for re-activation to be able to properly check it.

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one from your Volume License.

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

  • I couldn't finish the process because when I entered the line

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

it said it couldn't find the file, entry or folder.

    Ifollowed the steps

  • Interesting!

Please run the following commands, and post the output

    DIR %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft

    ICACLS %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft

    ICACLS %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I've corrected my earlier post now - could you please try the last two commands again?

  • The reason you got the 'duplicate file name' error is because someone has already tried the fix at some time in the past.

Please run the fix again, this time using the following commands

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    DEL tokens.b*

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

Thanx for all the support you have given me... I must say that i was running a virtual machine(LINUX OS) with ethernet enabled when this happened and a message appeared saying that other computer had the same ip as I minutes after the not genuine message appeared. is there a way to fix that? I tried the commands you gave me and it seems that i did something wrong because keeps saying that the file is duplicated or doesn't exist.

I'm getting annoyed about this, please help me.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.

    Thursday, June 20, 2013 4:03 PM
  • The reason that the notification disappears when the WAT update is uninstalled is simply because the system can no longer test for the affected files.

It has NOT cured the underlying problem.

If you want to leave things as they currently are, that's fine - but I would suspect that you will have more problems down the line.

  • OK... so, what's the next step to follow after the command you asked me to run? I'll try to do things right.

    Thanx for your reply.

    I restored WAT. :)

Thank you very much, also, for your help.
