However if i run the query from the trace directly into sql management, the quick search works perfectly for a while as soon as the query is completed.
We have had this issue when there is a large number of contacts in the database, and when there are multiple "Quick Find" fields defined. The reason it is working faster from Management Studio is probably just because the query is cached. We have not found a solution for this - the only workaround was to reduce the number of fields which are being searched on within the quick find.
