Office Ultimate 2007 incorrect Product ID

Question
-
I purchased the Office Ultimate 2007 software from Digital River at the student cost of $59.95. I downloaded the file and proceeded to install on my Vista Home Premium machine. The Product ID that I received from Digital River will not work. Says it is an incorrect id. I had Office Professional 2003 installed but removed it. I spoke to someone at MS and was informed that the product id I was given was for a standard office product but Digital River says it is definately for the Ultimate Office 2007 product. They are claiming I have an instance of the previous Office product on my machine but I do not see any evidence of that, even in the registry. Here are the diagnostics. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I need this for school.

Smitlivan,
Your error message "the key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and then re-type it." is related to Office Product Activation. Which is out of scope for the Office Genuine Advantage forums. From what I gather, you've been told you have a different product key than what you purchased and you are having problems matching your product key for activation with the installed version, I reccommend the following steps which may or may not help you.
Step 1 - remove all versions of Office, as long as you are able to re-download it from the source your purchased it.
Step 2 - contact who sold you the copy Office. Have them at the point of sale verify that you are given the correct product key and correct version download link.
Step 3 - reinstall the correct version.
If you have problems Activating, call Microsoft for Activation support, as that is out of scope for the Office Genuine Advantage program. They should be able to troubleshoot with you further to resolve your issues.

Smitlivan,
In order to receive the best support, we request all users to initially run the Genuine Diagnostics tool. I know you included the Diagnostic data, however my analysis was unable to verify the data. Please re-run the tool again. Also, please provide the exact version of Microsoft Office you purchased at Digital River, the exact version MS said you purchased. Also please provide the exact error message you received when you entered the product key you were given by digital river for the version from digital river you installed.
Please download and run the MS Genuine Diagnostic Tool utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.
Step 2 is telling us about the COA. Tell us:
1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
5. Please also provide a short description of the issue you are experiencing.
NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.
Respectfully,
Rick, MSThursday, August 28, 2008 2:56 PM -
Smitlivan,
Your issue appears to be outside the scope of the Genuine Advantage forum. In an attempt to assist I would like to provide the following information, however if the issue persists I would recommend you contact Microsoft Office support at http://support.microsoft.com/gp/assistsupport and choosing your product to create a support incident.
Please look @ the following Knowledge Base (KB) article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us. Here you will find detailed instructions for removing beta and trail release versions of Office Suite 2007 or program.
Important: This article contains information about how to modify the registry. Make sure that you back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up, restore, and modify the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
"How to back up and restore the registry in Windows XP and Windows Vista” http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/
When you are finished removing the remnants of your trial version (as indicated in the results of the tool you submitted), revalidate the version your purchased with the ID you were given. At that point, the trial version should be off your machine. You may need to call MS again to verify that the product key you have is in fact for the version of Office you purchased. If it is not, then you will need to contact the department you purchased the product from and explain your scenario with them.

I purchased Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 from Digital River. Microsoft said the product id I received was for a standard office product but didn't say which. Digital River is telling me that office ultimate 2007 product is checking the product ID of the office 2003 installation and then reports that "the key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and then re-type it."
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, with computer manufacturer name, HP in black lettering.

Why would the "activate product" check the Product ID from the new office product against a previous version of an installed office product? I don't understand.Thursday, August 28, 2008 5:31 PM
