SUBST dos command under XP cmd RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I use the old dos command "Subst " with all OS (including win98). when using the same syntax " subst a: d:\path" under windows XP sp2. error rep. "invalid parameter-a:" This happens when there is a flopy drive A: hardware installed. under the same OS the command works if I use for virtual drive letters not assigned to hardware.
I need to point out in OS dos and win98 I used the same command and I diverted the program from writing on flopy disk to the directory of my choice.
    Q. how come XP_cm wont accept a drive letter assigned to a hardware ax a virtual drive? is there athore means of diverting read write commands from hardware device (say flopy drive) to ather hardware & directory? for a dos programe?
