Backup of C failed, Error 262

Question

This problem occured on the workstation with XP and now 7 Professional. The backup starts and backes up D then the rest of the drives don't backup. The event log says it loses communication with the server. However, this is the only time it loses connectivity. Two other computers back up successfully. The workstation's drives all test ok and no errors.

Does it run through chkdsk?
Is this partition cloned, converted from FAT32, or perhaps protected by Bitlocker or other encryption?Tuesday, February 9, 2010 12:35 AM -
There might be some more events logged before your Event ID 262 - look through the logs again from the start of your backup window through to the 262 to see if there are any clues.
Though it's good advice to run a "chkdsk /r" on all your drives.

Check disk found no errors and all drives have always been NTFS, no cloning (for religious reasions), and the whold thing backed up on Jan 30, but not since. It seemed to only back up on Sundays for a while but now that has failed too. I have not installed new software or hardware except for critical patches from Microsoft.

There are other events but none critical except for this event. I seem to be saying this a lot and it's helped in a few cases. Do you have Realtek network cards? If so try rolling back the drivers on them in Device Manager.

No realtek drivers but I did discover that if I disable my UAC in Win7 Prof. the backup runs, at least it has the last two days. Seems to tell me that I have something not getting permission that needs it but I don't know what or how to figure it out, yet.Tuesday, February 16, 2010 3:50 AM
