my Microsoft Document Imaging Writer printer has disappeared RRS feed

  • My Microsoft Document Imaging Writer printer has disappeared.  If I see in Explorer a file with an mdi extension, I can double-click on it and the Office Document Imaging application opens and displays my document.  But if I want to print something in WORD (or any other app) I can choose among a list of printers (my HP Deskjet, my PDF printer, the XPS Document Writer, etc) that no longer includes the Microsoft Document Imaging Writer that has been there for years.  Where did it go?  How can I add it back to my list of printers?

    I don't know exactly when this printer disappeared.  I'm sure I used it a few days ago.  Since then I may have allowed Microsoft to install updates; I always do that when it tells me I should.  Right now,  my Windows Vista has Service Pack 2.  My Office 2003 has Service Pack 3.
