You will get this error message if the client computer name contains non ASCII characters. Please check the WHS 2011 support website for more details.

Hope it helps...

I am having the same problem, have tried all of the suggested fixes without any luck.
- Connected one machine using http://server/connect without problems, but when trying to connect a 2nd one i get the error.
- Can RDP into the server using name or IP address fine from the machine with the problem
- Can ping both name and IP address without problem
- Disabled firewall and Antivirus
- Clicking the link brings up the "An unexpected error has occurred . To resolve this issue contact the person responsible for your network"
- Computer is w7 64 bit, 4gb ram
- Have tried saving the file and running as administrator, same problem
- Computer name is not the problem as its just a 6 letter name
Any help would be hugely appreciated as i'm completely stuck with this.

Hello,
I am also having this exact same problem, and I have tried everything. Is there any more help that Microsoft can offer at all please??? None of my computers will install "Connect" and every computer say's "An unexpected error has occurred. To resolve this issue, contact the person responsible for your network."
None of my computers will connect, it is really annoying that their is not much help on this subject. I have even done brand new installs of Windows 7 and Windows Home Server 2011 with no other software except Windows Updates. I can ping, connect remotely, connect from the Run command but for some strange reason, I cannot get that "Connect" to install, I just keep getting the same error message over and over...
Please help me, this is nuts...

I was having a simmiliar issue after that last WHServer roll up software update that came out last week. I have a WHS 2011 system that I use on my home network running on a physical box, did the update and it wanted me to reboot to update the connector software. I did and all was fine all systems connected without problems.
I also maintain a business WHS 2011 system that is running in a VMWare system. I did the updates and all of them had an issue reconnecting to the server, connector kept saying that the server was offline, although I could choose the offline mode conection and then open the Dashboard without any problems as well as connect to shared folders once I put in the user name and password. I even did a backup with one of the systems using the Manual Backup options.
After working on it for hours I finally uninstalled the connector software and attempted to reinstall and got errors during the install process not long after putting in my server PW. I was able to get one of the five computers to reload the software from the server and reconnect, but only one. Next I saved the connector software from my other server on a USB stick and after using that version I was able to reinstall all connectors on all computers and all is back up and running as normal.
I hope that this helps

I had the same problem.
I remembered that I had executed the connector directly out of IE. So next I tried to save it to downloads, then do a "run as administrator".
That seems to have solved it!
