Windows 10 64->32 bits RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

One of our customer wants to downgrade a new Dell OptiPlex with Windows 10 Pro 64 bits to Windows 10 Pro 32 bits :

    - is it possible with the same license ?

    - I suppose then, we have to reinstall completely the machine but will Windows ask if we wants the 32 bit version ?

    Thanks in advance

    Best regards

  • Hello,

Yes, the Windows 10 Pro license is independent of system architecture. This means you can use same license on 32-bit and 64-bit system. Depending upon type of your license, you need to confirm this information from the vendor.

Note that direct downgrade from 64-bit to 32-bit is not possible. You need to make clean install of 32-bit edition using 32-bit installation media/ISO file. Windows doesn't asks for which system architecture you want install, as there is separate installation media available for 32-bit and 64-bit.

    Hope this answers your query!

  • Hi,

Changing the architecture (64 bit to 32 bit ) requires a clean install of windows.

Check that 32 bit drivers are available for your hardware is important.

Your Windows license allows you to use either version. For others You'd better contact dell support for a definite answer.

Since this is a technical forum and not a licensing one,  if you need a definite answer you'd better contact your reseller or a trained Microsoft licensing specialist regarding your licensing questions.

    Best Regards,

  • You can use the same Windows 10 license to install a 32-bit version of Windows 10.  However, you will need to contact Dell Support and ask them about proving the Windows 10 32-bit installation media.
