.Net 4.6.1 WebSockets: Create Unique Websocket URL at runtime RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am exploring using Websockets in my ASP.Net (4.6.1) application that is launched by a user specifying their loginid and phone criteria in the query parameters. When the associated web page is launched it has the user criteria within. I am using websockets to exchange phone commands from the webpage to the server and phone events from the webserver to the client page. All is working well.

But the issue is, how to extend this beyond a single user on a server? I need a unique Websocket URL so that one users Websocket communication does not get tangled with another users. Is there a way to set up a unique Websocket URL at runtime within the ashx component - either a unique URL Path (e.g. ws:///WebSocketHandler.ashx) or a unique Port (e.g. ws://:/WebSocketHandler.ashx)?

I would think that this requirement is not that uncommon, but I have found no real references.
