Windows Validation suddenly popping up after recent updates. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

I have this pop-up as of approximately June 15th.  It says "This computer is not running genuine Windows".

I've followed the link provided and tried validating again, and while my System basic information page shows my Windows is activated, the legitcheck.hta still says it's not genuine.

I've read lots and lots of forum posts and it looks like most people end up requiring some more hands on help.

To help speed up the process I'll go ahead and post the results of MGDiag (hopefully that's helpful!)

    I've uploaded a file - sluicom64.zip - to my OneDrive at  Noel's OneDrive

Please download and save it to your desktop.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...

Save it to the default location

This should create a file sluicom64.reg

right-click on the file, and select Merge

Accept the warnings, - you should then get a 'Success' message.

    Close all windows, and reboot.

Run another MGADiag report, and post the results.

  • You have a COA SLP install with a Retail Motherboard.  This will never work.  You will need to purchase a Retail or (more likely available) an OEM System Builder version of Windows, format your drive and reinstall.  Be sure to back up your data first.

Please do not read this sentence. Please ignore the previous sentence.

  • Hello!  Thank you for your response.  I had to look up COA SLP and am still not 100% sure what that means.  I purchased this copy of windows almost 3 years ago and it has been working great until recently.  I have a code and authenticity sticker...  This is not enough?  I hope I don't have to buy it again...

  • COA_SLP licenses are only supposed to be sold already attached to machines - they are not for sale on the open market. (unless MS changed policy lately)

The actual technical problem with your report is probably easy to fix...

To confirm that the problem is what I think it is, please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt window and post the results.

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • Hello!  Thanks very much for your help!

I did as you said and each command gave me the same error:

"ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value."
