"Live Mesh is currently starting" message all day RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using Live Mesh for many months with no problem until about five days ago. Now, I cannot connect to Live Mesh with my desktop PC. I get a "Live Mesh is currently starting" message all day. Rebooting does not help. If I exit and then restart Live Mesh, it just does the same thing, sits there all day saying "Live Mesh is currently starting. My laptop computer still connects to Live Mesh with no problems. I am running Windows XP SP2 on both computers.

  • Unfortunately, there are typically two ways to address this, in order.

    1. Uninstall Live Mesh on that PC and then go to www.mesh.com, sign in, and "add" the PC back by downloading and installing. It will be recognized as the same device on sign in and you will not need to reconfigure your Mesh folders or re-sync them.

If that fails to resolve it,

    2. Uninstall Live Mesh *and* remove the device from your Mesh at www.mesh.com - then add it back. You will need to reconfigure your Mesh folders.

If that still fails, I'm afraid that you're out of luck as the next version of Live Mesh will not work on XP. The next version is expected to be available for beta today and is the merger of Live Sync and Live Mesh. • Thank you. The first method, uninstalling and then re-installing Live Mesh, got my desktop PC back on the mesh, but I am seeing the PC twice, one online and one offline. Also, all new blue folder shortcuts appeared on my desktop. And a "Live Mesh" folder also appeared with a "Conflicts[0000]" folder in it with 869 files.

  • Something caused Live Mesh to see it as a new PC, then. You will need to remove the old machine from your Mesh.

If the desktop folders all appeared as solid blue Mesh folders, I'd start over. Remove the machine from the Mesh, uninstall Live Mesh. Delete the blue Mesh folders (after they change to yellow on removal of Live Mesh). Install Live Mesh, and reconfigure the sync relationships for the folders.
