Vista key went inactive

Question
-
I last used this computer (a DELL Inspiron in April & Windows ran fine. Today (July 31), it says that my Vista Home Edition Key is not longer valid. (KEY: REMOVED).
May be related to the SP1/SP2 issue.
How do I get my computer running again?

So long as the machine is plugged in to a reliable power source, it should still work fine - a battery is not 'required' AFAIK, just good safety practice.

Alternatively, you can change the Product Key to the one listed on the sticker on the side or bottom of the PC (some laptops have the sticker inside the battery compartment) and then Activate by Phone.Thank you,
