Activate Windows program says that my Windows is activated, but MGAdiag says that my Windows is not.

Question
-
I purchased a Sony Vaio from Fry's in 2004. I have installed previous versions of WGA and have been able to update my computer until today.
The Microsoft Geunine Advantage notifier in the system tray lead me to the site which told me to activate windows.
When I ran the Activate Windows program it said that my copy was already activated.
However, according to the MGAdiag.exe program Windows is not activated. Therefore I am unable to validate my Windows.

Hello Zaraki,
Please try the 'Activate by Phone' method (listed below) If that doesn't work, I suggest contacting support, Product Activation issues should be at no charge.
For XP Home: Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&prid=3219&gprid=37013
For XP Pro: Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&prid=3518&gprid=185522
How to activate Windows XP by phone
To contact a Microsoft customer service representative to activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:1. Click 'Start', point to 'All Programs', point to 'Accessories', point to 'System Tools', and then click 'Activate Windows'.
Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area (aka system Tray).
2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.
3. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box, and then click Next.
4. When activation is completed and you receive the following message, click OK.
"You have successfully activated your copy of Windows".Thank you,
Darin Smith

Hello Zaraki,
I would suggest re-calling the number and explaining that the Product Activation screen will not come up and that you require support to fix the issue. Remind them that the agents at the Telephone Activation are not trained in troubleshooting technical problems.
You may also want to post your question in the Windows XP forum (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx)
The forum that you are currently in is for Windows Genuine Advantage and technical problems with Product Activation are outside my area of knowledge.
Thank you,
Darin Smith

I was able to resolve the problem with internet support.
I ran these 2 commands using command prompt. (Start>Run>cmd)regsvr32 /u licdll.dll
net stop winmgmt
Then when I ran MGADiag.exe. It said my copy was genuine. After this I was unable to run the Activate Windows Program. After I restarted Windows the notification went away.

I went to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, and the activate windows program was not there.
However, when I run oobe/msoobe /a the Activate Windows program says
"Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit." The only button to click is OK which closes the window.
Therefore, I can't activate over the phone. I called the support people. At (866) 234-6020 and all they did was direct me back to the Telephone Activation.
