Genuine XP - Invalid CD Key? RRS feed

  • Question

  • i recently had a trojan that deleted part of the boot up program of my XP so i had to repair my OS and then after going through all the trouble which took me a couple hours of waiting. It tells me i have to put in a CD Key when i log on to activate my Windows Copy.

I put in the CD Key on the back of my computer i bought a few months earlier and then it says it is invalid.

I checked it over and over but it still will not accept the CD Key as valid.

Microsoft then says if i want to send an email request it will cost me 60 dollars PLUS Tax. I dont have the 120 for a new operating system which i ALREADY bought nor do i have the 60 offhand to simply ask for assistance.

  • Sinope,

You mentioned using a CD Key on the back of your computer. Please tell us how many alpha/numeric digits the key is but do not put in any of your key here. Also tell us what the actual sticker looked like. The produce key you should be using should appear like one on this site http://www.howtotell.com .

    Thank you,

    Stephen Holm
