New Forums Not Working With FireFox - 6-19-2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  •  The new Forums are not working correctly with Mozilla FireFox 5.0, rev.2.0.0.14.  Threads are not being displayed today.  It is working just fine with IE7.  It makes no difference if I am logged in or not.

    1. The Forums home page appears to display properly with FireFox.  It was working Monday and Tuesday prior to the 5pm EDT.  I did not try to access yesterday, Wednesday, 6-18-2009.

    2. Clicking a Sub-Category, like the C# group of forums, displays properly with Firefox.

    3. Opening some of the specific forums does not display the content, although I can see the title at the top and the link back to the Forums Home.  EVerything below that line is blank.

This was posted using IE7.  Anyone else seeing this problem?  Rudedog

  • Hi Rudedog2--

    A CTRL + F5 should resolve this.

    Root Cause:

Quoting one of the Forums Developer's Comments from thread: http://forums.community.microsoft.com/en-US/reportabug/thread/14948ed6-bd0b-4bdf-ac88-5ded95afee47

"During our upgrade last week, some new scripts were pushed out. We ran in to problems where it took a while to get these updates pushed out to all of the CDN's. So in effect, many people were getting mixes of new and old scripts which were not entirely compatible. Once the CDN's were updated and also browser cache for those same script, it would clear up and go away.

We've taken the necessary steps to avoid this situation in future releases.

  • ....and now it suddenly started working.  All I did was go get a cup of coffee and try it again for old time's sake.  Still uncertain......

No it's not.  It worked when I was not logged in, and could not see my avatar on the top right.

I logged in, and it died with FireFox, but it still works with IE7.  I logged out using FireFox, I could still see my avatar on the top right, and it does not work.  It I re-start FireFox, I can see threads just fine until I log in and my avatar appears.  Once that happens, no threads are visible.

  • Rudedog2:

This was happening to me also at first (using SeaMonkey). Try refreshing the page a few times. It's working for me now.

And much improved with Reply button on the Preview!

  • They struggled for a while when they put the updates in.  I was getting a Javascript error in the page's initialize function which left the page nearly blank except for the button bar and the gray Filter By bar.  It got fixed later that evening.  FireBug is indispensable.

  • Thanks, Hans.  That was the ticket.  Posted this with FireFox.  Make sure others can find this solution.  Tried to mark your reply as answer but that option did not seem to be there, just "Helpful".

  • Thanks.

What was odd is that it worked just fine with IE7.  Probably because I had not used it to download the issue Hans referred to.
