Replication of Windows Home Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • How can an existing Windows home Server be replicated to a new computer hardware without doing all the manual copying of files and settings?

I have one fully licenced Windows Home Server and on the new hardware I can possibly installl the 120 days test version.

Are you trying to upgrade your server?  If so, you can move the drives to the new server (making sure you connect the primary drive to port 0 on the motherboard) and do a Server Reinstallation.  (Just make sure that all of your drives are visible in the Load Additional Storage Drivers screen and you should get that option.)  Other than that, you have to copy everything over (either copy and paste or an app like RoboCopy).

  • Hi Norbert,
even if this is not supported:
If the new hardware is similar to the old (processor family and chipset),the mass storage controller is identical configured (SATA or IDE mode in Bios for the controller as on the old mainboard) and the former system disk is connected to the first port of the controller and configured as boot disk in the Bios, you may be lucky and get the system booting up, so that you can install the drivers for the new hardware.
    Best greetings from Germany
    Olaf
