  • I think you're going to need t remove the expired version 1 of OneCare from that system. How did it get regressed to xp from Vista?

  • Uninstalling now..

well, regressed isn't the right word. But I was never able to completely rid my system of Vista RC1... even trying to reformat and install XP from scratch. for example, I cannot even run IE (any version) because of the resulting failure to rid myself of Vista (IE7 wont even install...) and the support forums for vista here just absolutely suck. (I am actually very surprised someone already answered my posts here so soon, if at all!)

will update on OneCare once it's at the next step fo install or failure.

  • Instead of just reformatting, delete the partition by booting with the XP cd and create a new partition.  IF the Vista boot files were written to this partition it should work.  If you set up a multiboot system then the Vista boot files are probably in the root of disk 0 volume 0regardless of which partition you installed Vista to.  You may want to visit one of the Vista newsgroups.  I suggest microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup.

  • I'm getting the same "...is not a vailid Win32 application". Running on an up-to-date version of Vista Ultimate. Uninstalled OneCare version 1.5 (and rebooted) first. Downloaded a second time, same problem. When downloading, it hangs (well, icon still shows downloading but percentage doesn't change) and then after about a minute with no progress, it finished the download really quickly. • thanks Cbarnhost... I will do that some day when I have the time to dedicate to it. Right now, I can make due with firefox even though it really is a piece of *** browser.

WLOC Beta 2.0 is now installed. I deleted the old install of it, but noticed too that my original download wasn't the file size that was stated it should have been earlier in this thread... soo, either the file was an incomplete download/corrupted or I needed to uninstall the old expired one.

either way, thanks for everyone's assistance on this. Nice to see this Beta won't abandon me like Vista Smile

From your description it sounds like there may still be occasional server issues for the download, but I'm not sure. We'll be passing on feedback about the various download and install issues and see what we can find out.

  • Glad to read that you got 2.0 installed, LeeRyder. And the delete partition will be the way to go for clearing off all traces of RC1 and starting with a nice clean XP install on a clean drive - that, or replace the hard drive, depending on the age of the drive.

  • Thanks Stephen, but to update you, I finally got it to install. The solution: multiple downloads. The fourth time I downloaded the software, it worked. So yeah, it appears there was something "gumming up the works." Don' t know what you guys did, but it appears you solved the issue. Thanks for getting back to me.

  • Just for those that may stumble upon this thread:

I had the same issue. And, as described in an earlier discsuuion, I resolved this problem by downloading the file once again. In my case, it only took one more try-- then it installed fine.

  • Glad you were finally able to download it. I am hopeful that whatever server gremlins existed have been exorcised for now!
