  • Question

  • Folks,

Has anyone tried running any Home Automation packages on the server?

I have seen a couple advertised for MCE and many of XP but this seems a good addition as an add in with the webserver being the link back for alarms etc.

  • I run my x10 stuff off WHS and thus have had no issues.  The drivers etc for Active Home Pro and iWitness the camera plug in worked fine.

  • A number of people have talked about HA but I don't know if anything has ever been done about it, yet. I originally planned to add HA to my WHS but I'm not sure that I want the trouble and cost of setting it all up. If I do HA anytime soon, it would be very limited.

  • I haven't transfered my X-10 from its current location on our media PC yet, because I just haven't gotten there yet.  Do your run Active Home Professional on WHS?  With video?  I have most lights (indoor and outdoor) and video surviellence set up now.  It would be nice to have it on WHS since there wouldn't be multiple users accessing the PC, like happens now.  I'll give it a try.

  • I did run Cameras but I am in the process of changing over to a better camera than x10.  That said I do run alot of lights and some simple timers and macros without a problem yet.  My only issue is that for some reason AHP seems to run slower on WHS then it did on my previous Windows 2000 server.  Might be perception, might be related to a differnt utilization pattern.  I did not capture the metrics that would be needed to do a true benchmark so in my book this one will remain a mystery.  Frankly it is not enough of a issue to care.
