Windows 7 Professional Activation Suddenly being asked for

Question
-
Hello,
I've been using Windows Professional for a little bit under a year now having downloaded it and installed it from a MSDN Alliance, All of a sudden it is now asking me to activate it (I think its after I installed Windows SP2 - I could be wrong). I've tried using my product key to activate it but I get a message saying, "The product key you have entered appears to be a default product key and cannot be used for activation. Type a different Windows 7 Professional product key."
I've done the sfc scannow and rebooted and nothing changed.
What can I do to fix this problem and What other information is needed for someone to help me??!

Your problem is that the installation is using the Default Key - which cannot be activated. You'll be lucky if you can get an MSDNAA Key to work using normal methods, as it's an Upgrade Only Key - but the Key may work in an upgrade install (repair install)As to why or how Windows managed to 'lose' your Key, I have no idea :)

Please observe announcement 1 above.
In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in this thread.
The default product key is a placeholder Windows Setup inserts when a keyless install has been done. It is not unique and cannot be used to manually activate Windows. In the scenario you describe the default key should not even be an issue. That is why we need to see the report.
