  • Will it not help to get into the MVP community?

  • Yes.  Consistently helpful and active community members can get an MVP award from Microsoft.  That gets you a token gift at award time, $150 to spend in the company store and a free MSDN subscription.  Plus a few fringe benefits not worth mentioning.  MVP nominations are done through a secret ballot, you can't affect the outcome.

  • There are a lot of times when you answer someone's queries that you learn something new....in that respect it does help the people who answer.....

  • The question was whether there is a direct relationship between answering questions in the forums and getting benefits from Microsoft.

The answer to that is No.

    ----------------------------------------------------

I was tempted to write that for every ten posts made to the Visual C# forum that are proposed by the same person as an answer, Microsoft will send the poster free software but I decided that someone might actually believe that, so I stuck to No.

There is NO direct relationship between becoming an MVP and the number of posts made to a forum. There is also no need to post to forums at all if someone wants to become an MVP these days. You can setup user groups; write free codeplex products; give lots of talks on the product at conferences; write quality blogs with lots of good information in them; write book(s) etc. (or any combination of the above).
