I bought my computer with Vista last year and now I keep getting a message popping up telling me that it is going to expire, to back up my data, and purchase a new version. I have the evaluation copy logo in the corner of my screen because I installed an RC copy at some point a long time ago while looking for updates at someone's recommendation.
What's going to happen in X days (the expiration)? How can I prevent this? I have a perfectly valid, legal copy of Windows.

The error that you have x days till expire sounds like the error when Service Pack RC1 is about to expire. But I do not see RC1 installed on your computer. In addition the "Evaluation Copy" text is also indicative of having RC1 installed.
I do not believe you are having a Vista Non-Genuine issue. The true issue is that, for some reason, Vista appears to thinks it still has RC1 of SP1 installed. Please go to Vista Solution Center at http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11732#tab0 there is information on known SP1 issues as well as a link to free SP1 support.
