RPC in Synchronization RRS feed

  • General discussion

While tracing the SQL Server instance with a profiler we can identify the RPC signature while synchronization is running (peer to peer - CTP1).

My query is that if we block RPC port on one of the systems involved in synchronization, will synchronization work?

On the contrary if synchronization dosnt' work will it be advisable to expose our database servers on the public IP with RPC port open.

  • All communication with the SQL Server happens on the port that is open for communicaiton - typically the 1433.

So if you close it, none of the communication to the SQL Server can go through.
