Problem: I have used this copy of XP Pro for a long time. Sometime during the past year I began getting the boot screen that I shut down XP wrong, white text black backgroud just like the original DOS. I try safe mode could not find a problem, went on into
windows, still no problem. This went on for a month or so, deleted some software that I installed, still the sme. Then for no particular reason it started to go through this screen twice, then 3 times, post beep occured all three times, when it finaly went
into windows, all is normal. I decide to re-install XP, got all the updates. Then it started again, same screen that happens when the proper shtu down has occured but it was shut down correctly. The latest thing I did was take the drive out of that computer
put it into another computer, different mother bard and all, did the smae thing. No decided touse a different hard drive in the original computer, a bigger drive. re-installed XP Pro again, after rebooting several times during the reinstall, no problem re-booting.
Aftern using the computer for 3 or 4 hours, up dating from Microsoft, about 75 updates including IE8 every thing looked great. Shut it down correctly, started the next morning went right into the window telling me it was not shut down correctly.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this copy of XP Pro. The standard shut down proceedure is to click START/SHUTDOWN OR RESTART/ the desktop begins the shutdown, if updates need to be installed a little ballon will appear on the shut down icon, then you
get a message to not shut the compouter off, the shut will do it. All appears normal untill the, "you idiot your shut down wrong" comes up.
