Service Accounts & AppData & Trace Folder Access RRS feed

  • Question

  • For the sandbox service account I have to give read & write access to the local user AppData folder, e.g. C:\Users\SandboxService\AppData. However, this folder does not actually exist as I created the user on the domain controller. Am I just supposed to login to the local computer with the service account name so the directory is being created and I can give read & write access to it? Also does it need anything else like modify rights?

Further I should give read & write access to the folder \Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Trace. However, that folder does not exist since I am still in the process of installing CRM when I need to define the user. I assume it's ok to just give these access rights after the installation of CRM. Is this correct? I think the only exception might be for SPN which I believe needs to be done before installing CRM.

  • Hi

The folder C:\Users\SandboxService\AppData will be created as soon as you assign a service account to a service & start that service - after that you will be able to give the appropriate permissions (Chances are that they will be already assigned correctly)

Yes you can give this access rights later - regarding the SPN (i think i answered you in a seperate post?) you do not need to give it before installing - missing SPN for the sandbox service won't crash the installation - CRM will work just fine but you might have issues with sandbox configured plugins if you do not set the SPN corectly

    Good Luck

  • TZ00KI, indeed the directories were created for these users while installing CRM. In addition, the access rights were also set. Neat! I guess it probably also would have set the access rights on the registry keys which I did manually (for some reason the registry already existed. I assume it's created very early on while you still go through the screens and before the actual installation).
