  • Question

  • Hi,

    What happened to kb2999226?

It seemed to be shown as neccessary update some time ago but isn't any more.

As our product needs this update - we are using VC14 - our customers should install the update.

There is a customer that is sceptical as this update isn't shown as needed any more in Windows Update...

    We can reprdouce that here.

  • Hi Thomas,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

As far as I know, the KB2999226 is an update for Universal C Runtime (CRT) in Windows and this update allows Windows desktop applications that depend on the Windows 10 Universal CRT release to run on earlier Windows operating systems. For more detail information, please check this: Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows

    >>There is a customer that is skeptical as this update isn't shown as needed any more in Windows Update

What’s OS version of this customer?

Through the above article, we can find that this update is available from Windows Update, and you can check the optional or recommend pending windows update or check the installed windows update to check if this update is already being installed or not.

Meanwhile, we can only directly download this installer of this update per the OS version, before running this installer, please have a look at the prerequisites:

*To install this update, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. Or, install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Or, install Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and for Windows Server 2008.

    Best regards,

    Sara

  • Sara,

We and even our customer knows about the update web site.

The customer uses Windows 7. They are restrictive in installing updates. They check if an update breaks any of their enterprise wide applications.

We checked very recently that this update is not available through Windows Update. It might have been available earlier but these days it isn't any more. There are other parties that identified that situation as well:

Our customer wonders why this is the case. They argue there might be some reason that MS removed this update from the Windows Update mechanism.

Is there anybody who can comment on that?

Thank you for your detail information and I have checked this on my Windows 7 computer, now the KB2999226 is not available when you check for updates, I tried to download the standalone installer of this update, then manually install it and the installation is successful as below:

Not sure why this update is not display under Windows update, this issue is about the windows update of Windows 7, since our forum is to discuss the VS IDE, please redirect to this appropriate forum: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7?auth=1 to seek for a more professional support, thank you for your understanding.
