  • You can contact support by following the instructions here:

    http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

If you have purchased OneCare, then one of the support options will be Telephone support. If you are unable to validate, then choose Email support and ask for a phone number or a call back. Provide your subscriber LiveID from Help/About in OneCare.

The first thing I would recommend is setting Internet Explorer to be the default web browser under Programs and Defaults on the Start menu.

Then, see this post for the KB article to troubleshoot install problems - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1588602&SiteID=2

Your PC is still protected if OneCare is installed, even if the 15 day trial period has ended. You just can't perform manual functions and it won't receive updates after some period of time in the expired state.

You can contact support via email as a trial user (instructions in the FAQ post on how to contact support) and explain that you are a paid subscriber who cannot activate. If their email instructions do not help, the problem can be escalated and a call arranged.

However, I suspect that there is perhaps other software blocking your activation or it could be a configuration issue that the KB article linked above can help you correct.

  • I need to be able to speak to a live customer support/tech support person about correcting my registration.  It does not help me to only speak to a computer.

Use the information in the support FAQ -

http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2 to submit a support request via email as a Trial user. Explain the details of your situation and a tech will respond via email to help sort out the problem.

If your subscription to OneCare shows expired in OneCare

    • Check your PC date and time.
    • Click Check for Updates in the main OneCare interface.
    • Check your subscription status by logging in with your subscription LiveID at http://billing.microsoft.com
    • Confirm that this is the same LiveID shown to be the Subscription ID in OneCare - Help/About...

If your subscription is correctly shown at the Billing site, but incorrect in OneCare and your PC date and time are correct, and checking for updates does not correct it, please contact support.

  • Check your email, Mike.

I would like to point out that you aren't explaining your problem very well, just yelling about being unable to reach support. I understand you are frustrated, but we are here to help when we can - and we are fellow users, not Microsoft employees.

You don't have to open OneCare in order to contact support. It is explained in the FAQ:

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

If the subscription is under your son's Hotmail account, he could change his password temporarily and let you have access to it until you correct the problem and then change it back after it is resolved. Note, however, that the subscription key is the LiveID, which in this case is the Hotmail account, so you really need to have access to that LiveID and password if you actually paid for the subscription.

If the OneCare program is Green, but you are unable to open the interface, this should resolve the problem:

To repair .Net Framework 2.0 on XP:

    Open Control Panel

    Select Add or Remove Programs

    Locate Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0

Select the entry and when the installer launches, select Repair.

    Reboot when it completes.

    Alternatively, see this KB article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306160

To remove a corrupt .Net Framework install, use this tool:

    http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

The download of .Net Framework 2.0 can be found here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en

To repair .Net Framework 2.0 and 3.0 on Vista, see this blog entry:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2007/03/26/how-to-repair-the-net-framework-2-0-and-3-0-on-windows-vista.aspx

If the above does not resolve the problem with OneCare, please contact support:

  • I downloaded the trial version and cannot get it to install.  There seems to be no support beyond a 4 step process that yields no results.  This is poor performance, even from Microsoft.  I will delete and find another solution.

The support process is a little convoluted, but the FAQ explains how to open an email support case.

You post gives me nothing to tell me what problem you are encountering when trying to install. Error message? At what point? What is the Operating System? Does the PC meet the minimum requirements?

  • Actually, my efforts to find a way to reach telephone or live-chat support have all failed; it appears that although Microsoft lists these as support options in its "pre-sales" materials, they are not actually available as support options. (I am in the US.)

The only mode of support is the submission-form, which requires that I manually retype the entire registration code (which Microsoft BLOCKS me from cutting and pasting).

OneCare is simply not a meaningful product for business use.

  • I am having the same problem.  My computer will not boot other than in Safe Mode.  One care will not load.  I am just trying to get a phone number so I can call for the help that I PAID FOR when I PURCHASED OneCare.

Did you encounter a problem with your PC after applying XP SP3? If so, that's an XP Update issue, not a OneCare issue.

If so, take a look at this page: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=windowsxpsp2 the 3rd link down, in particular - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888372
